Students Making Out in BIO 200 and BIO 201

"Students Making Out in BIO 200," "Students Making Out in BIO 201," and "Students Making Out in BIO 200/201" refer to actual incidents (or widely believed rumors) of students engaging in intimate physical behavior during large biology lectures. In 2025, UB's student community took notice when classmates in the back of lecture halls for courses BIO 200 and BIO 201 were reportedly seen making out (passionately kissing and possibly more) in the middle of class. The bizarre nature of this behavior occurring openly in a crowded hall - during a lecture - quickly became a hot topic on social media, especially the r/UBreddit subreddit. Multiple posts and comments appeared, both in shock and humor. While specific details such as the identities of the students or whether more than kissing was involved are not publicly confirmed, the event is "verified" in the sense that numerous students claim to have witnessed it and discussed it online, but also due to student discussion of the professor acknowledging it.

The Incidents

In the Fall 2024 semester, a couple was noted in BIO 200 (Evolutionary Biology) engaging in decidedly non-academic activities. One post, titled "please stop making out in the bio200 lectures," appeared, in which the poster said "you know who you are." Comments on this post appeared, such as several mentions that the couple began to make out when the professor was talking about interbreeding. One commenter asked "Is this lecture in Knox?" to which the original poster replied "yes," meaning the lecture was likely in Knox Hall, and the professor may have been Poulin.

In the Spring 2025 semester, during a lecture for BIO 201 (Cellular Biology, coming after BIO 200), a similar occurrence (or possibly the same couple, if legend holds) was noticed by students. Accounts on Reddit described that the pair was "making out" in the back rows of the hall, openly kissing for an extended period while the lecture was ongoing. This behavior became the talk of the class. Shortly after, a student made a post titled "Stop making out in BIO 201 Classes," to which comments discussed that it may be the same couple from BIO 200. OP stated that this was in "Dr. Hutson's class," and one comment asked if it was "the blonde dude who's balding and the short girl," to which another user replied "Yeah you are on to it" and the commenter said "LMFAO I ain't even go to class today and I knew LOL," indicating that this couple may have been the same as in BIO 200 or were otherwise potentially known to have previously engaged in this behavior.

A student created a post titled "Bio 201 yall freaky," showing a video that a student recorded in a BIO 201 lecture in NSC showing the "Stop making out in BIO 201 classes" on the front screen and the professor talking about the incident. Another post was created called "Bio 201 what have you done," showing a picture of a poll titled "Should people make out in class?" with the options of "A. Ick!", "B. Meh", and "C. Bring it on - yum, yum!"
