UB Incidents

From UBWiki

Throughout the years, there have been many incidents at UB, ranging from strange to bizarre.

Sizzles Incident

The Sizzles Incident is a notorious piece of UB campus lore involving an individual who allegedly entered a campus eatery completely naked while under the influence of hallucinogens. According to student accounts on Reddit and other forums, at some point in the early 2010s, a male student - reportedly high on LSD or psychedelic mushrooms - walked into Sizzles completely naked and attempted to order food. The bizarre spectacle was witnessed by other students, at least one of whom - user u/Shadow1787 on Reddit - claimed to have taken a photo of the incident.[1] In the retellings, the nude individual realizes the gravity of his actions only after the fact and was so mortified that he supposedly dropped out of school soon afterward.

The veracity of some details remains anecdotal, as no official campus police report or news article was publicly recorded for the event. However, on UB's subreddit, students frequently references the Sizzles incident, and the tale became so well-known that a parody Twitter account called "UB Naked Guy" even emerged, further entrenching the incident in campus folklore.[2]

Greiner Hall Hostage Standoff (The “Cracking Freshman” Incident)

The "Cracking Freshman" incident refers to a surreal and tense standoff that unfolded in Greiner Hall in late October 2021, involving a so-called "super senior" who had been living on campus well past the normal timeframe for graduation. According to early reports on Yik Yak and Reddit, the individual—identified only as “Brandon” by multiple posts—was a 7th-year undergraduate student known for his erratic behavior, conspiratorial rants, and obsession with “cracking freshmen” (a slang term he allegedly used to describe interrogating first-year students about their study habits, party affiliations, and roommate drama).

The situation escalated when Greiner RA staff reportedly attempted to investigate complaints of loud chanting and suspected drug use from Brandon’s suite. When UPD officers arrived, Brandon barricaded himself inside the common room with several freshman residents, claiming they “had vital intel” on what he referred to as a "freshman cabal." Witnesses recalled him shouting through the door that he was “doing the university a service.”

The standoff lasted nearly three hours, during which students live-posted on Snapchat and UB subreddits. A SWAT team from University Police eventually entered through the rear suite window using a ladder from a UB maintenance truck. No hostages were harmed, though one student said they had been forced to play several rounds of League of Legends. “against their will.”

Brandon was taken into custody and subjected to a psychiatric evaluation. Rumors spread afterward that he had been enrolled in only one credit-hour course per semester for the past three years to maintain housing eligibility. Though no charges were filed, the incident triggered a reevaluation of UB’s student housing policies regarding extended stays.

The “Cracking Freshman” saga quickly became a meme on campus, with themed Halloween costumes, T-shirts reading “Crackin’ Under Pressure,” and even a UB Memes page series imagining Brandon as a chaotic antihero.
