UB Spiderman is the name given to an individual (or series of individuals) who became a beloved fixture on campus by dressing up in a Spider-Man costume and interacting with students. The "UB Spider-Man" phenomenon began in the late 2010s. By 2018-2019, sightings of a student in a full Spider-Man suit roaming UB's North Campus were being gleefully reported on social media and in the campus newspaper. UB Spider-Man would appear in public spaces such as the Student Union, academic hallways, and dorm quads - often striking classic poses or offering friendly waves and high-fives to those passing by.

Greiner Hall is a second-year only residence hall located on UB's North Campus. Known for its modern design and eco-friendly features, it offers suite-style living with amenities that appeal to many students.

== Overview ==
Greiner Hall is the most recent residential building at UB, having finished construction in 2011. It has a capacity of 610 beds across 146 suites. Each suite consists of two bedrooms (each with two beds), a shared bathroom, and a walk-in closet space. As such, four people live in each suite of Greiner Hall. The target residents are second-year students (mainly sophomores), and includes an Honors Living Learning Community (LLC).

Construction began on Greiner Hall in November 2009 with original designs by CannonDesign and construction overseen by LPCiminelli. == Popularity and Housing Selection ==
Securing a spot in Greiner Hall is difficult due to the competitive nature. Many students aim to live at Greiner because of its modern amenities and favorable location. As some students targeting Greiner may get slightly different housing selection times, it's critical for one to form a group with at least one student who holds an earlier registration time in order to get a chance to live there.

Students in the Honors College can apply to the Honors LLC, which has designated spaces in Greiner.

The building and suites are typically around 72.5°F (22.5°C), and while there are thermostats, they do not tend to change the temperature by a significant amount, if at all. The rooms have high ceilings and feature cool white lighting.

The first floor of Greiner Hall features the Au Bon Pain cafe in the A Wing, which offers convenient dining options for soup and breakfast sandwiches. The B Wing of the 1st floor has study pods with personal lighting and whiteboards, as well as Lounge 13 - which features the only landline telephone still in service at Greiner Hall (as all other landline phones have been taken out of service). Classrooms are located in the B Wing and the C Wing of Greiner Hall, and are air conditioned separately from the rest of the building's HVAC system to ensure proper cooling when it's hot outside.

== Student Experiences ==
Student opinions on Greiner Hall vary. Many find the modern nature of Greiner Hall to be convenient. On the other hand, some students report that the water-based cooling system can lead to rooms feeling warm, particularly during sudden temperature changes. Many students have also found the limited washers and dryers per floor lead to competition for usage, as there are only four washers and five dryers per floor of around 120 students. The front desk of Greiner Hall - where flat mail and some packages must be picked up - has hours that some find to be inconvenient. Further, some students have experienced issues with drain flies coming from their drains, leading to dead, fuzzy flies around their room.
